Maple Street Tree Project
On February 3, 2007, the Maple Street Tree Project drew dozens of neighborhs, students, and business owners to plant 43 trees along this corridor. The Project is a collaboration between MARI, Parkway Partners, and area neighbors and businesses (See list of sponsors below!).
Volunteers planted 43 trees on Maple Street between Cherokee Street and S. Carrollton Avenue on Feb. 3rd. The planted trees included sweet bay magnolias, chinese pistacios, and red buds. We had problems with plantings at only three spots (e.g., water leak needs repair by S&WB) and will work with Parkway Partners will help address this few remaining item I. In the near future, we hope to have photos available of the volunteers and the trees. Hopefully, with some time and basic care for the trees, these trees will grow as our community grows.
The Project included the following sponsors (at $200/tree): MARI, St. Andrews, Uptown Therapeutic Massage, Gae-Tana's, RE-MAX Realtors, Le Krewe D'Etat (two trees for Maple Street Book Shop), Cuttin' Loose, Uptown Cajun, Jay's Buggle Tea Café, Career Pro Resources, Amann & Associates Landscaping, Friend & Company, Maple Street Café, Bruno's Tavern, Angelique's, X-Ray Cleaners, Bendana Family, Freeman Family (for AF Communications), Richard & Sandra Freeman (two trees), Bridget Heno (for Maple Small Animal Clinic), Nancy Marshall, Dawson & Laney Calhoun, Hunter & Clarice Claiborne, Houck Family, Robin Stead, Sharpe Family, van Haagen Family, Betty Wisdom (two trees), Malek-Wiley Family, Keith Hardie, Nichols Family, Dr. Nicholas Pejic, Barron Family, Groome Family, Tony Moore, Ricchiuti Family, Benton Family, Ken and Be-Be Adatto, Hillel Foundation, and Delta Tau Delta Fraternity (Tulane).

Also, special thanks to Jeff Amann (another neighbor) and Amann & Associations Landscaping which, in addition to sponsoring a tree, had two landscaping crews assisting volunteers during the event.
Finally, special thanks to all volunteers in organizing event, especially Aimee Freeman, for her efforts.
