Moratorium on Alcoholic Beverage Outlets (ABOs)

On December 1, 2005, at MARI's urging, the City Council adopted a Moratorium on ABOs for our neighborhood and later expanded it to cover other portions of the Carrollton-Audubon neighborhood. Click here for a map showing area covered by ABO Moratorium.

Excluding the French Quarter, the Carrollton neighborhood has the highest concentration of ABOs in the city. The Moratorium was originally proposed by MARI in April, 2004. With efforts of UTNA and UAA, it was expanded even further. We believe this moratorium will be critical to protecting our neighborhood from the expected turnover in businesses as a result of Hurricane Katrina. We thank the City Council for their approval of the ABO Moratorium.
