On June 19, 2007, the Alcohol Beverage Control Board approved a consent judgment by TJ Quills for significant violations of underage drinking laws. On November 10, 2006, the Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control (ATC) received a complaint about a bus load of underage sorority girls going to TJ Quills on Maple Street. The ATC conducted a sting operation with the official police report showing the majority of 100-125 patrons were underage at the establishment. At a hearing before the ABC Board, TJ Quills admitted to the violations and agreed to a consent agreement that was approved by the ABC Board. The TJ Quills consent agreement imposes significant penalties on TJ Quills including: (1) a $2,000 fine; (2) a requirement to provide a security patrol on weekend nights; (3) use of a I.D. scanner; (4) enhanced I.D. requirements; and (5) random floor checks for underage drinkers. Importantly, if TJ Quills violates the consent agreement or has another violation, the consent agreement calls for a 30 day suspension of TJ Quills' liquor license. This action against TJ Quills was the direct result of a concerned neighbor calling the Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control (ATC) in response to a blantant instant of underage drinking. This underscores the need for neighbors to remain vigilant and report alcohol violations to the appropriate authorities.
